Acceptance of Terms
These Terms constitute a binding agreement between you (the "User", "you") and Readship ("we", "us", or "our") regarding your use of the Readship application and related features (the "Service").
By creating an account, signing in, or otherwise using the Service, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agreed to these Terms and our Privacy Policy.
If you do not agree with these Terms, you must not create an account or use the Service.
Eligibility & Age Requirements
You must be at least 13 years old to create an account and use Readship. If you are under 18, you represent that you have obtained permission from a parent or legal guardian to use the Service.
We reserve the right to refuse, suspend, or terminate accounts if we learn that a user does not meet the applicable age requirements.
Account & Security
Most Readship features require a user account. You are responsible for:
- Ensuring the information you provide during registration is accurate and kept up to date.
- Safeguarding your credentials and the device you use to sign in via Google Sign-In, Apple Sign-In, or email.
- Notifying us promptly if you suspect any unauthorized access to your account.
You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account. We are not liable for any loss resulting from your failure to keep your credentials secure.
Use of the Service
Readship is a social reading platform where you can create and join reading circles, share reviews, discuss books, and organize meetups. When using the Service, you agree not to:
- Violate any applicable law or the rights of any third party.
- Post content that is unlawful, abusive, hateful, threatening, harassing, discriminatory, obscene, or otherwise inappropriate.
- Share content that infringes on copyrights, trademarks, or other intellectual property rights.
- Send spam, unsolicited marketing, or engage in fraudulent activity.
- Impersonate any person, circle, or organization.
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service, other accounts, servers, or networks connected to Readship.
- Use automated methods (e.g., bots, scrapers) to collect or manipulate content without our written permission.
- Interfere with, overload, or otherwise impair the operation of the Service.
User Content
"User Content" refers to any content you create, upload, or share through the Service, including posts, reviews, comments, polls, chat messages, images, and information about circles and meetups.
Your Ownership
You retain all rights to the User Content you create. You are solely responsible for the content you publish and for having the necessary rights to share it.
License to Readship
By making User Content available through the Service, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, display, distribute, and adapt such content solely to the extent required to operate, provide, promote, and improve the Service.
This license generally ends when you delete the content or your account, except for content that other users have redistributed, and for technical backups that are removed in accordance with our standard retention practices.
Moderation
We reserve the right — but have no obligation — to review, edit, or remove User Content that violates these Terms, applicable law, or our community guidelines.
Circles & Community Conduct
Circles (book clubs) are social spaces where members read and discuss together. Circle owners and administrators may set their own rules, manage members, and remove content that conflicts with the circle's purpose.
As a member of a circle, you are expected to:
- Treat other members with respect.
- Follow the circle's rules and Readship's general community guidelines.
- Respect the privacy of others — do not share screenshots, chat logs, or private information outside the circle without consent.
Meetups and events organized through Readship are arranged by users. Readship is not the organizer and is not responsible for what occurs at physical or virtual meetups.
Intellectual Property
Readship, including the app's design, logos, source code, texts, graphics, and other components, is owned by us or our licensors and is protected by copyright, trademark, and other applicable laws.
No part of the Service may be copied, modified, distributed, or used for commercial purposes without our prior written consent, other than as expressly permitted by these Terms or by mandatory law.
Book covers, metadata, and other bibliographic materials are provided by third parties (e.g., Google Books and Open Library) and remain the property of their respective rights holders.
Third-Party Services
Readship relies on third-party providers (e.g., Google Firebase, GetStream, Apple/Google Sign-In, and Google Books/Open Library) to deliver the Service. Your use of these features may also be subject to the terms and privacy policies of the respective providers.
We are not responsible for content, services, or features provided by third parties.
Suspension & Termination
You may close your account at any time via the in-app settings or by contacting us at info@readship.app.
We reserve the right, with or without notice, to temporarily or permanently suspend your account or remove content if:
- You breach these Terms or our guidelines.
- Your use of the Service risks harming other users, Readship, or third parties.
- We are required to do so by law, regulatory order, or court order.
Provisions that by their nature are intended to survive termination (such as intellectual property, limitation of liability, and dispute resolution) will remain in effect.
Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". We make no warranties, express or implied, that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or meet your specific expectations.
Readship is not responsible for content created or shared by other users, and we do not pre-screen every post, chat message, or circle.
Nothing in this section limits the rights afforded to you as a consumer under mandatory law.
Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable mandatory law, Readship shall not be liable for indirect, consequential, incidental, or special damages, lost profits, lost data, lost goodwill, or other intangible losses arising out of or related to your use of, or inability to use, the Service.
Our total aggregate liability for all claims related to the Service is limited to the amount you have paid to Readship, if any, during the twelve (12) months preceding the event giving rise to the liability, or SEK 100 if greater.
Nothing in this section limits any liability that cannot be excluded under mandatory law, such as for gross negligence or willful misconduct.
Changes to the Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time to reflect changes to the Service, technical conditions, or applicable law. Material changes will be communicated via the app or by email before they take effect.
The "last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of Readship after the changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms.
Governing Law & Disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of Sweden, excluding its conflict of law rules.
Any dispute arising from these Terms or your use of the Service shall first be addressed through good-faith dialogue with us. If no resolution is reached, the dispute shall be settled by the Swedish general courts, with the Stockholm District Court (Stockholms tingsrätt) as the court of first instance.
If you are a consumer, you may also refer disputes to the Swedish National Board for Consumer Disputes (ARN, arn.se) or the European Commission's Online Dispute Resolution platform (ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr).
